It’s a well-known fact that Google is the king of search engines. However, one thing you may not know is that Google has different algorithms for different geographical areas. You can see this by looking at how your website ranks in your area versus another city or state. For example, if I’m in Los Angeles and type “best burger” into google, my favorite burger place comes up first on the list. If I travel to New York City and do the exact search, it will no longer be number one on the list! This post will teach you how to change your location so you can find actual rankings of websites in local searches for any area around America with just a few simple steps!

How to change your location for Google search

Google search can be changed to different cities around the world.

  1. Open Inspect in the Chrome Browser

    right-click to open inspect

To open inspect in the Chrome Browser, you will need to Right-Click on the page and select Inspect from the dropdown list.

  2. Open Sensors

You will need to click on the three dots in the right corner to select More Tools, followed by Sensors at the bottom of the list.

    Advanced option

You can also do this process faster in Inspect by pressing Command+Shift+P (Mac) or Control+Shift+P (Windows, Linux, Chrome OS) to open the Command Menu.

Type sensors in the search window, selecting show Sensors, and pressing Enter; the Sensors tab opens up at the bottom of your DevTools window.

  3. Select your Location

To the left of the screen, you can now select a preferred city, or add the longitude and latitude of the desired city you wish to test for.

We tested this multiple times and with a number of different search queries. It seems to work every time! If you have any issues, please let me know, and I can see how I can help.
